Hello Lovelies! So for a few months now I have been going to flamenco class and practicing for our yearly show at the Tempe Center for the Arts. This past March 7th it happened! First let me begin at the beginning, I am a beginner at dancing Flamenco. I met my Teacher Yumi La Rosa years ago while seeing her perform at the Montelucia (btw she is back there on Saturday evenings at 5:30pm). I quickly enrolled in her class and have been trying to improve ever since. Classes are on Saturday mornings from 11:30am -12:30pm at The Metropolitan Arts Institute in Phoenix (7thAve & McDowell) . This session we focused on the dance called a Garrotin. It is not one of the better known Palos (which is almost like the style of dance) in flamenco, but I got to wear a cute hat and use it as a prop in the dance, I’m all in!
I set out my supplies before getting ready on Saturday at the theater. Getting my makeup done by my super talented friend Priscilla. She was awesome! I never could have done this… The Costume was very bright and colorful. Got some help with ALL my hair too! My friend Priscilla checking out my new DSLR. Cool Selfie! Mini warm up out in the courtyard Loved my beautiful makeup..so happy with the results Waiting our turn for our group photos My friend Coralis and I before our number Two darling kids dancers in this year’s show Vera waiting for her Alegrias group number Pretty Maya with her Cat Eye makeup. I loved this. Finally the whole group for Garrotin The second half of the she consisted of several professional dancers. Yumi in the pretty white ruffled skirt, the star of the show. Tachu, a dancer from Spain, in the center right in his element. Tachu has upcoming workshop in 2 weeks here in Phoenix. Many talented musicians also played beautifully that night. Thank you so much to my lovely friend Luz and her husband Rey who came to support me. Its definitely hard not to have family in town. Love you Lucy! My friend Mindy and her husband Mateo (taking the photos). Thank you both so much it was so special having you there. Well, when I finally got home I plunked my tired self onto the sofa and didn’t want to wash my make up off EVER. I wish I could do that daily! So I hope maybe I’ve inspired some of you to get YOUR dancing shoes on! Check out Yumi’s website www.yumilarosa.com Also,Saturday, March 21st from noon til 6pm and on Sunday, March 22nd from noon til 8pm is the Phoenix Festival de España (Spain Festival).
